Conor McGregor appears to have really gotten under the skin of Rafael dos Anjos.
The current UFC lightweight champion came face to face with the featherweight belt holder, and March 5th challenger to his crown, this week at the first UFC 197 press conference.
McGregor was at his incendiary best/worst and launched verbal grenade after grenade in the direction of the Brazilian which included among various comments, these slurs.
“I am going to send you back to our Brazilian TV partners, Globo and Combate Sport, and have you answer to the Brazilian people why we have to book you a hotel in your own home country, why your kids names are Bob and Donald – why are you raising American children?”
The comments went down badly with many and now RDA has hit back in an interview in the Daily Mail, claiming that Irish fans have lost patience with the Dubliner, and will be cheering him on instead.
Dos Anjos believes that McGregor has crossed the line, and has hit out at the attitude of the UFC featherweight champion.
“The guy thinks just because he is dressed nice and drives nice cars that he has class, but he’s classless, he’s a low-life.
“I knew he was going to talk over me and take my place, that’s his style. But I’m going to talk louder on 5 March.
“I knew he was going to try to use all his weapons to make me get mad but I kept calm. He has no respect, he doesn’t know the word, it doesn’t exist for him.
“He’s going to get worse, he’s going to do everything to promote himself, do everything for money.”
McGregor called dos Anjos a traitor for not respecting his country, and not being held in the same regard as Jose Aldo.
“I see a true champion in Jose. I see a man here who doesn’t represent the people of Brazil like he should. He brings the name of the country down and so I will bring the name back up. Viva la Brazil.”
Dos Anjos feels that McGregor has forgotten about Ireland’s history of emigration, and thinks the Dubliner should learn to have more respect and why some Irish fans may turn against the Drimmnagh native.
“In Brazil, millions of Brazilians leave and a lot of Irish leave Ireland. These people don’t deserve to be called traitors.
“I think he’s calling his own people traitors and I want to call all the Irish who live in the USA to be on my side because he called them traitors. I want their support on 5 March.”
We reckon there is two chances of that happening, but it’s good to see that trash-talking isn’t just a one way street with RDA.
