He's not here to take part...

It’s time to start getting excited for UFC Fight Night 59.

Conor McGregor is set to take on, in his words “midget, German, steroid-head” Dennis Siver in his first UFC headliner on American soil in Boston in January. The Notorious will be looking to reaffirm his position as the “logical number one contender” of the featherweight division by dispatching the spinning-back kick specialist. A win for McGregor might just earn him a title shot against long-reigning champion Jose Aldo, and who knows, it might even take place on Irish soil.

There a few more reasons to be excited for this card which I’m officially dubbing the “I can’t believe it’s not UFC Dublin” event. For one, we get to see Irish welterweight Cathal Pendred compete in his third fight under the UFC banner. The former Cage Warriors champ will be looking to remain unbeaten in the world’s largest MMA promotion with a win over Sean Spencer.

Dubliner Paddy Holohan also features on the card. He’ll be looking to get back to winning ways against Shane Howell while Northern Irish lightweight prospect Norman Parke will take on arguably the toughest challenge of his career in the form of Brazilian grappling expert Gleison Tibau.

So, now that you have all these lovely thoughts about how far Irish MMA has come since the early days circling around your head, get fired up for the event by checking out its stunning official poster. It really is a sight to behold.
