The hype has been building for months and the withdrawal of Jose Aldo has done little to lessen the appetite for UFC 189.
In the small hours of Sunday morning (Irish time) Conor McGregor will face Chad Mendes in the MGM Grand in front of thousands of Irish fans who have travelled to Las Vegas, and tens of thousands more who will be watching on TVs and laptops at home.
There have been stories about the weight McGregor has to cut in order to reach 145lb for Friday’s weigh-in – with Chael Sonnen raising some doubt about the Irishman’s ability to shed the pounds in time for the weekend – but in his latest Instagram post The Notorious looks lean, mean and ready for action.
