Three champions, one icon and a flashy Irishman

Conor McGregor’s place on the cover of the latest edition of UFC’s official magazine shows just how important he is to the promotion.

McGregor is one of five fighters to grace the front cover, alongside UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, middleweight champion Chris Weidman, women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey as well as the man who most consider the greatest of all time, Anderson Silva.

The fact that the Irish featherweight was given the nod for the honour is a major testament to the backing that he’s being given by the promotion.

“The Notorious” is one of the biggest draws in the sport today, as we learned from the UFC’s The Time Is Now event last month at which McGregor fielded the massive majority of questions from media and fans.

McGregor (16-2) has been with the Las Vegas promotion for less than two years and has had the single-most spectacular ascent to the sport’s summit.

A championship belt is the only thing missing for McGregor as his next fight with Dennis Siver approaches but, if the Irishman’s 2015 predictions are any bit accurate, that won’t be for long.

It’s almost unprecedented to have a fighter with just four fights under the company banner to be on the pedestal upon which Conor McGregor currently stands but hey, we’re not complaining.
