Another UFC fighter has joined the long list of people who want a shot at Conor McGregor.
Yan Cabral, who is a teammate of featherweight champ Jose Aldo, has declared his interest in facing the Notorious inside the Octagon. He revealed his desire to fight McGregor during the post-fight press conference.
There’s a guy that I want to fight, a guy that has been talking a lot, talking about Jose Aldo as well: McGregor. He fights at 145, but talked about moving up to 155 for a fight, and I also thought about fighting at 145. I want to beat him up one day.
We have at least 10 featherweights at Nova Uniao that could beat him up. Until he gets to Aldo, there are more guys he has to beat. Hacran Dias would kill him.
The Brazilian submission specialist capped off his debut at 155 lb with a superb second round submission victory over Naoyuki Kotani at UFC 179. Cabral forced a tap from the Japanese fighter after taking his back on the mat and sinking in a rear-naked choke.
Although McGregor has settled nicely into the UFC’s featherweight division, he has fought at lightweight before. The posterboy of Irish MMA simultaneously held both the featherweight and lightweight belts in European MMA promotion Cage Warriors.
However, Cabral is unlikely to get his wish any time soon. McGregor is set to fight Dennis Siver in Boston in January as a precursor a potential title fight with Aldo next summer. It will be difficult for McGregor to squeeze in a fight against an unranked lightweight when he’s likely to be fighting for the UFC belt next year.
