Tyron Woodley swiftly changed his tune about fighting Nick Diaz when the Stockton native called him out.
Nick Diaz has served his 18-month suspension by the NSAC and he’s now looking for a fight.
It looked like the former Strikeforce and WEC champion would secure a title shot against Tyron Woodley upon returning to the Octagon after the newly-crowned champion called him out after knocking out Robbie Lawler to claim the strap. However, it looks like the Stockton native’s Facebook antics may have cost him the fight.
Diaz shared a video of The Chosen One’s brutal knockout loss to Nate Marquardt in Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy in 2012 on his Facebook page with the caption, “I’m sorry but why didn’t we fight in Strikeforce???”
This didn’t sit well with the belt holder, who pretty much said that Diaz’s smack talk has cost him a title shot.
Woodley responded in the comments, highlighting the fact that Diaz hasn’t won a fight since 2011, hinting that his call-out was an attempt to do Diaz a favour to secure him a decent pay day.
However, Woodley explained that Diaz’s insulting post meant that opportunity was now off the table and instead he will be pursuing a fight against the other man he has been looking to fight – Georges St-Pierre, who has already confirmed his interest in returning to try to win back his belt.
Diaz was suspended for failing a post-fight drug test due to marijuana use after his super-fight with Anderson Silva in January 2015. Woodley managed to squeeze in a dig at Diaz’s association with the recreational drug before closing out his piece.
No mention of poor Stephen Wonderboy Thompson here either.
