Nate Diaz responds to claims that he’s 30 pounds over the weight limit

Is Nate Diaz going to make weight for UFC 202? Probably, but he’s not giving much away.

A couple of weeks ago boxing coach Ricky Funez claimed on Instagram that the Stockton star was “close to 200 lb, 30 lb over the weight limit for his welterweight do-over against Conor McGregor at UFC 202.

When asked if this claim was true in last week’s UFC 202 conference call, Nate gave a long pause before finally responding with a “Yeah,” causing Conor McGregor to emit a hearty laugh.

However, Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times has since quizzed Diaz over his weight and apparently Funez’s claim was just an exaggeration.

Diaz told Pugmire that “there’s no way he’s 30 pounds over” and that he could make 170 lb simply by “skipping one dinner.”

It looks like Diaz will be tipping the scales on Friday on weight, which is hardly surprising considering he’s never failed to make 170 before. Although he has missed 155 lb once in the past. He came in at 160.5 lb when he took on Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on Fox 13 in December 2014.
