WATCH: Nate Diaz explains what it’s like to take a punch from Conor McGregor

Still standing

Nate Diaz took the very best shots from Conor McGregor and was still standing.

The Californian soaked up everything The Notorious threw at him and came back for more. Indeed, McGregor highlighted Diaz’ ability to eat some hits as one of the main reasons he ran out of gas, and lost, at UFC 196.

Diaz explained just what it was like to take the kitchen sink from McGregor. He told UFC on FOX:

“I had just fought in December and I had a cut [above my eye] from that Michael Johnson fight. It pretty much split right open.

“I didn’t really feel it at the time but I looked back on the fight and thought ‘Oh f*ck’. It was a real nice uppercut.

“My eye got blurry for a minute. In between rounds, they wiped it with ice. Then, in the second round, the ice water and blood came into my eyes and I couldn’t see shit.”

Diaz believes his superior all-round game, not just his Jiu-Jitsu, did for McGregor. As for who he fights next, Diaz says he simply wants the biggest pay-day.

Asked what he bought with his massive cheque from the UFC [he got $500,000 from the fight, excluding sponsorship and bonuses], Diaz remarked, “A bag of cookies.”
