Mixed-martial arts organisation, ONE Championship have made some huge statements as of late. Last month they signed multiple world lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez to a reported eight figure contract that will see the “Underground King” live comfortably the rest of his life.
They followed that up with one of the most historic moments in the history of MMA as they agreed a trade deal with the UFC that saw them acquire the services of longtime flyweight king, Demetrius Johnson, whilst undefeated welterweight Ben Askren went in the opposite direction. It was a deal that the likes of which had never before been seen in MMA.
The Asia based promotion have made some great business moves, and have most definitely closed the gap on both Bellator and the UFC with their recent dealings.
They’ve now signed another famous face from the world of MMA as news broke this morning that former UFC women’s bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate is relocating to Singapore to take up a role as vice-president of the organisation.
“I am thrilled to join ONE Championship as a vice president,” Tate said in a statement in the ONE press release.
“I truly believe in its mission of unleashing real-life superheroes who ignite the world with hope, strength, dreams and inspiration.
“I’m honoured to bring my experience as a World Champion and to help inspire the next generation of athletes. And of course, I am excited to relocate to my new home, Singapore, and travel throughout Asia!”
Tate is well known to MMA fans around the world having fought the likes of Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, Cat Zingano and Amanda Nunes. She was a world champion in both the UFC and Strikeforce. Tate retired in 2016 after suffering two straight losses, and recently gave birth to a daughter.
“It is both an honour and a privilege to announce that women’s mixed martial arts world champion Miesha Tate will be joining ONE Championship as vice president,” ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong said.
“Miesha has been an incredible pioneer for the sport, and has been an inspiration for many young men and women. What impresses me most about Miesha is her humility, compassion, honour, and respect.
“Throughout her career, Miesha has always exemplified the deep-rooted martial arts values of integrity, humility, honour, respect, courage, discipline, and compassion.
“Not only is she a good friend, but I am proud to have her represent ONE Championship on a global scale. I look forward to welcoming Miesha to her new home in Singapore!”
Miesha Tate will make her first public appearance for ONE Championship this Friday night.
