He may be a bad man inside the Octagon, but outside of it, Eddie Alvarez is one of the good guys.
Eddie Alvarez knows a fighter when he sees one, and once he heard of Tyrone native Aaron Elliott’s story, he wanted to meet him.
Elliott, who has become a key figure for Philadelphia GAA since moving there in March, was found unresponsive and without a pulse after being struck by a car in Alvarez’s home city.
After being transported to hospital, he underwent emergency surgery on a severe compound fracture which had left his elbow shattered, suffered a blood clot, leak in the brain, and a fractured skull and a collapsed lung.
All that was asked of ‘The Underground King’ was for a simple retweet of the Go Fund Me page set up to help pay for Elliott’s medical bills. However, he went a few steps further by making an effort to meet the young warrior and spread his story around Philly.

Alvarez spoke about meeting Elliott in his new vlog. While on a media tour with TUF 26 contestant Sijara Eubanks, he told Elliott’s tale during an interview with Philadelphia radio station WMMR. It was clear from his comments that the meeting had a lasting impact on him.
“There’s a kid, he plays for Philadelphia GAA, he was hit by a car really bad. He’s an Irish kid that came over here about a couple of months ago and he’s recovering right now in Abington Memorial Hospital. I wanted to go check him out. He’s a living miracle. He’s talking to me, walking like a normal person. Just two weeks ago he bashed his skull open, broke a couple of things.”
“His name Aaron Elliott and he’s out there right now. He has a Go Fund Me page and he has no insurance. He’s from Ireland and like I said, no sad story here. The guy’s fighting a fight and he’s doing it unbelievable. So just keep an eye out for this kid.”
