Matt Serra pulled no punches with his criticism of Conor McGregor’s appearance at Bellator Dublin.
For those of you who have been residing under a rock for the last week or so, Conor McGregor caused quite the ruckus in the 3Arena last Friday. The UFC lightweight king leapt into the cage after his teammate Charlie Ward’s victory, shoved Marc Goddard into a dazed, defeated John Redmond and struck a Bellator employee in the face.
Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra is the latest big-name personality to speak out against the Dubliner. He went on an astonishing rant during a recent episode of Unfiltered with Matt Serra and Jim Norton in which he labelled McGregor, ‘an attention whore.’
“He makes it about himself. He doesn’t make it about his friends. He’s not doing it to support his friends. Just like when his buddy Artem was fighting recently and he lost and he was getting yelled at by the ref. He makes it about himself. Now, I know you want to be out there, but dude, you’re an attention whore. You’re making it about you. That’s not respectful to your fighter.”

Serra’s main gripe was with McGregor striking the Bellator employee who tried to prevent him from entering the cage a second time. The New Yorker just doesn’t understand how McGregor has thus far avoided repercussions over that incident.
“What about jumping on the cage and smacking the official? If I did that, if anybody did that, they’d be called a fucking asshole. How does this guy get a pass? Because he’s got Ireland behind him? He’s acting like a fucking asshole!”
“You could have all the money in the world. That official, I don’t know if he’s got a family and he’s got kids, he’s telling a guy to get off the cage, Conor smacks him in the face. Who the fuck is he to smack somebody in the face? He jumps on the cage like an attention whore and the fucking guy tells him to get off and then he fucking mushes him, he smacks him. That’s so not acceptable to do that to another human being.”

What has really baffled Serra is the excuses that have been made for what logic would dictate as an inexcusable act. In his eyes, it doesn’t matter what persona McGregor has. That doesn’t give him a free pass to do anything he pleases.
“I don’t give a fuck how much money you make. Who gives you the right to smack another man? I just think it’s funny that people are like, ‘Oh, well you know, that’s Conor. He’s bigger than life.’ He’s allowed to what? Smack somebody? Man, fuck that dude!”
Strong words from the former champion. We wonder if McGregor will muster up any response to this.
