Luke Rockhold not keen on the fight most UFC fans want

Cutting remarks

No white towels but the canvas was plenty red.

Luke Rockhold left his doubters stunned, at UFC 194, when he brutally disposed of reigning middleweight champion Chris Weidman in four bloody rounds.

The promotion’s new undisputed champion may yet find himself tied into a rematch with Weidman but the devastating manner of his victory will surely give him a greater say in who his next opponent is.

The fight most UFC fans want would pair him up with another winner from UFC 194 – Yoel Romero.

The Cuban beat Jacare Souza by decision to shoot him up to third [overall] in the middleweight rankings. However, Rockhold is not too enamoured with a Romero bout. He told MMA Roasted:

“The problem is with Yoel, he can’t sell a stolen purse back to an old lady.

Two of his last three fights have [drawn] a lot of criticism and scepticism and, with his last fight, it was hard to say he won.

Rockhold says he will give Weidman a rematch ‘if his head is right’ but feels the contest would be over within two rounds. I want a fight that will make sense, I want a fight the fans will want, that will sell out and that will make MON-EY.”

He cited the Staph (bacterial) infection that had him on a serious dose of antibiotics before UFC 194 and declares he would wipe Weidman out on a full training camp.

In a Sports Nation interview from December, the California native described his emotions as he unloaded 70 unanswered punches on Chris Weidman, before referee Herb Dean eventually stepped in.

“I was going to yell at Herb Dean and say ‘What do I have to do?’ but I was so caught up in the moment,” he said.
