Legitimate superfight involving UFC’s greatest champion appears to be a goer

Make it happen

The only real superfight is a champion vs champion affair, and one just presented itself to Demetrious Johnson.

Demetrious Johnson could be the greatest fighter to ever grace an Octagon, but he will always be a victim to the lack of depth in his division.

As the first and only UFC flyweight champion, he has never faced any former champions. Also, with that division being one of the newer ones introduced, it’s hard to gauge the credentials of its contenders in comparison to the more long-running weight classes.

Fortunately for DJ, there’s a two-time champion of another weight division who has him in his sights.

After knocking out bitter rival Cody Garbrandt, TJ Dillashaw immediately called out the flyweight king. As Dana White explained at the post-fight press conference, that bout would certainly have his backing.

“I haven’t (spoken to Demetrious Johnson), but he should be (open to fighting TJ Dillashaw). He’s been crying for a long time for a big fight. He’s got his big fight now. You know I’m down for it because I wanted to do it before, but now it’s even better because they both have belts.”

Dillashaw doubled down on his fight offer during his presser and also addressed the weight issue. Although he has never competed at 125 lbs before, he has no concerns about his ability to make the cut.

“I put muscle on to be at 35. I’m not a big 35 lber. I walk around at 150, but I stack on, I stay lean and I kept my diet up since the Ultimate Fighter.I’ve been on this new diet, I have a new strength and conditioning coach and he keeps the muscle on me because that’s what I need. When I go to 25, we’re going to have to lean that down. It is a lifestyle change.”

This is the fight. Let’s make it happen.
