So this is a thing now.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has reportedly been offered a position as assistant to the Head of the Republic of Dagestan, Vladimir Vasilyev.
Nurmagomedov met with Vasilyev earlier this week to receive an award for his achievements in the sport of mixed martial arts, having recently defended his title successfully against Conor McGregor.
After being honoured with the Order of Merit for the Republic of Dagestan, the UFC lightweight champion confirmed to tass.ru that he had been offered a political role.
“Yes, [I received an offer to become an assistant to the Head of Dagestan], but we will discuss this at the next meeting, [which] we will have soon,” Nurmagomedov said, as translated by Karim Zidan of BloodyElbow.com.

Should he accept the offer, the details of Nurmagomedov’s position remain vague but Vasilyev did express an interest in having the undefeated fighter “cooperate in the interests of Dagestan and Russia” in a sporting context.
Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap, was also in attendance at the ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, as the long-time coach of ‘The Eagle’ was awarded the Medal of Merit for Physical Culture and Sports in the Republic of Dagestan.
Speaking about Abulmanap Nurmagomedov, Vasilyev said: “All men dream of a son that they can help become talented, successful, strong, courageous but you managed to raise a person that Dagestan and the whole country can be proud of.”
