A big Khabib Nurmagomedov announcement appears to be imminent.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is in a weird spot. The Dagestani is undefeated in 25 professional fights after his domination of Edson Barboza. However, it is unknown whether his next fight will be a long overdue title shot.
There are two title holders in the UFC’s lightweight division. A unification bout between Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson is what the promotion wants to book, but that may not happen next. Dana White recently told Yahoo Sports that Nurmagomedov could get a crack at Ferguson’s strap in McGregor’s absence.
“As long as Conor is willing to fight by March, we could do Khabib versus Tony and then the winner fights Conor for the title.”
“Or if Conor wants to sit out until next fall, then we’d have to make Khabib versus Tony for the title, not the interim title.”

Should Ferguson not be the ‘big news’ Nurmagomedov is teasing, Eddie Alvarez is another possibility. The self-proclaimed ‘UFC’s most violent man’ explained on the MMA Hour that he was in talks over a ‘megafight’.
“I’m going to sit down with the bossman. He text me on the way home. We had a little bit of a conversation on the way home from the Justin Gaethje fight and I think we’re gearing to talk about a megafight. Shouldn’t be long before we sit down and talk to Dana and get some things hashed out about doing something big.”
If Nurmagomedov is the megafight dance partner ‘the Underground King’ was referring to, you have to feel for Dustin Poirier. ‘The Diamond’s fight with Alvarez ended in a controversial ‘No Contest’ after Alvarez landed an illegal knee. He has been pushing hard for a rematch since that fight as he closes in on a title shot.
