Jose Aldo has taken a leaf out of Jon Jones’ book with his response to the UFC 205 headliner announcement.
If for some reason you’ve missed the big UFC 205 news today, you’ll probably be happy to hear that lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez will be defending his belt against Conor McGregor in the headliner.
The bout has been long been-linked to the promotion’s New York debut, but it was only confirmed by the UFC in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. McGregor won’t have to vacate his featherweight belt, despite the fact that it will be his third fight in a row away from the 145 lb division.
Therefore, the two biggest losers from the news are number-one lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
Wow… Max Holloway is really mad at Jose Aldo https://t.co/Cyst88B3Pj

Undefeated Nurmagomedov may feel aggrieved that McGregor jumped ahead of him in the queue. “The Eagle” holds a pristine 23-0 record with seven of those victories coming under the UFC’s banner, while McGregor has been granted a crack at the belt for his divisional debut in the UFC.
For Aldo, his gripe is more personal. After securing the interim strap by comprehensively beating Frankie Edgar over five rounds at UFC 200, he has earned the right to a title unification bout against the Notorious. “Scarface” also wants to exact revenge for that devastating 13-second knockout at UFC 194.
Not long after UFC 205’s main event was announced, the Brazilian sent out the following tweet:
Level-headed, reasonable, fair – this tweet had it all, making his decision to delete it a bit of a head-scratcher.
Maybe he was receiving too much abuse from McGregor fans, perhaps he realises screenshots of deleted tweets tend to gain more traction than ones that are left untouched… or maybe he was upset that he left his hand on the shift key while typing, ‘will’.
I guess we’ll never know.
