Unification fight's a coming

Aldo’s on the mend, and it seems like he can’t wait to step into the Octagon against the new interim featherweight champion.

A day after Conor McGregor scored that phenomenal knockout victory over Chad Mendes in the main event at UFC 189, Aldo spoke with radio show Rock Bola.

The undisputed king of the 145 lb division is still as confident as ever that he’ll dispatch of the Notorious when they eventually fight, despite McGregor’s brilliant performance against Mendes.

“We will run through him no matter when the fight happens, but his time will come. When it does, you can be sure we will smash him.”

Aldo was originally scheduled to take on McGregor at UFC 189, but was forced out of the bout after bruising his rib and damaging cartilage in training. He has yet to return to training at Nova Uniao but he expects to be fully fit to train again very soon.

“I’m still recovering, should be back to training in two weeks. I’ll do more exams. As soon as the doctor clears me, I’ll be back to training.”

A date has not yet been set for the inevitable title unification bout between Aldo and McGregor. However rumours are circulating that the UFC are eyeing up a main event slot on the January 2nd card in Las Vegas.
