Jose Aldo may have retired after Conor McGregor fight according to bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw

One last payday

Jose Aldo’s broken rib may have scuppered more than just another title defence.

It could, in fact, have upset his plans for retirement if you’re to go by the theory of UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw.

Dillashaw revealed today that he believed the McGregor fight would have been Aldo’s last foray into the octagon before he hung up his gloves for good.

UFC 179: Aldo v Mendes 2

Speaking to Stud Show Radio this morning, Dillashaw said:

“This is money where he can retire, I actually think he was planning to. For some reason, I don’t know why, but I have a feeling Aldo was going to retire after this fight.”

“The guys been fighting for a long time, he’s been the champ now for a long time, but think about it, if you were getting paid millions of dollars – I guarantee you he’s going to make millions of dollars if this fight happens and ends up retiring. I hope it still happens.”

While that’s just the opinion of one fighter and there’s no actual proof that the featherweight kingpin was planning to call it a day, it’s certainly a theory that makes sense, considering the amount of money at stake and the amount of fight miles on Aldo’s clock.
