The upcoming UFC 197 main event brings together two people about whom Jose Aldo has strong feelings.
Conor McGregor, who destroyed the previously undefeated-in-a-decade featherweight in just 13 seconds at UFC 194, will take on Aldo’s fellow countryman Rafael dos Anjos in a bid to hold two belts simultaneously which would be a first in the UFC.
And while Aldo is well aware of what ‘The Notorious’ is capable of, he’s backing the UFC lightweight champion to deny McGregor his opportunity.
“Of course, I’m rooting for Rafael,” Aldo told FightAffect. “I will root for any Brazilian, it doesn’t matter who they are fighting. But especially Rafael, who works very hard.
“If you know his history you will know that he deserves to be the champion, and not only that but to be even more.”
But when asked about who he thought would win, the 29-year-old hedged his bets, suggesting “whoever adapts better will have an advantage”.
