The rumours just won’t go away.
Joe Rogan loves a good big pot for him to stir, and that’s exactly what he has done in his latest podcast.
The UFC colour commentator is a huge fan of both Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, and so was naturally asked about the biggest rumours in MMA since GSP teased his return to the octagon last year.
Roy Jones Jr. thinks the Dubliner would be destroyed by the American world champion, but Rogan feels that the outcome would not be as clear-cut as ‘Money’ may like it to be.
Rogan feels that while the professional boxer and motormouth would win, the 27-year-old could easily last a number of rounds.
“Mayweather’s not a murderous puncher. He’s not a Canelo Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin. Golovkin is a bad fight for him. Someone like that is a bad fight for him, a murderous puncher; because most likely they’re gonna take him out. But Mayweather, it’s very possible he is gonna get to the decision.”
“The fight, if it was to happen, would likely break all PPV records. The interest of two of world sports’ biggest talkers coming face to face would be massive, but Rogan feels that there is only one way the boxing-MMA showdown could ever happen.”
Rogan feels that there is only one unlikely way for the fight to happen.
“I would imagine, unless the UFC is involved (and his contract is cancelled) and I can’t imagine they would be willing to do that and I can’t imagine that they would let him fight Floyd Mayweather.”
Rogan feels the Irishman is attracted to the chance to box Mayweather not only by money, but also as part of his development as a fighter.
“If he survives and loses a f**king decision and he goes back and he says ‘All respect to Mayweather. Back to MMA. I just didn’t understand his hands. It’s a learning experience.’ and he has this great press conference. If he can survive, he’s not diminished too much. “
