Irish MMA fans are not happy.

Irish athletes in any sport don’t tend to win too many world titles and they feel that Conor McGregor’s exploits on Saturday night are being overlooked.

The Dubliner is still enjoying the spoils of his featherweight win over Jose Aldo in Las Vegas, but is expected back to his hometown in the coming days.

Rumours abound that he may even be back in the country on Wednesday, but despite his status as the very first Irishman to hold a UFC belt, no official homecoming of any description is being planned by Dublin City Council.

So some fans have decided to organise a petition to try and get a proper homecoming for the newly crowned UFC champion.

The petition, set up by Paula Keville from Wexford is asking that ‘For DCC to Hold a Coming Home Ceremony for ConorMcGregor”.

So far it has gathered over 7,000 votes and it is hoping that the large numbers will force the council to change their minds

“Dublin City has no plans to arrange a homecoming for the unified UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor.

Sign this petition to get Dublin City Council moving for some kind of reception to see him and his team paraded through Dublin City on his return home!”
