Ireland’s own Blaine O’Driscoll crowned new WWFC flyweight champion

And NEW

Fresh from Bellator’s successful return to Dublin last week, Irish fighters have continued the forward momentum of homegrown talent into March.

On the same weekend that Next Generation MMA’s Rhys McKee secured his second consecutive win under the Cage Warriors banner, Straight Blast Gym Ireland standout Blaine O’Driscoll became the new World Warriors Fighting Championship flyweight champion in dominant fashion.

O’Driscoll will hope that he left his bad luck in 2018, having missed out on the opportunity to fight for the Cage Warriors 125lbs title last November because his opponent refused to make weight.

This weekend, however, everything went according to plan for O’Driscoll.

The SBG prospect earned the third submission victory of his professional career when he capped off a dominant performance against Teimur Rahimov with a stunning rear naked choke at WWFC 14.

O’Driscoll travelled into enemy territory for the bout, meeting Ukraine’s Rahimov in Kiev, but showed no signs of being outside his comfort zone as he implemented his gameplan before ultimately getting the choke in the third round.

O’Driscoll remains one of the most exciting flyweights to emerge from these shores, improving his finish rate to 71 per cent with his win over Rahimov.

The victory pushes the Dubliner to 7-2 as a professional and proved that hard work truly does pay off.
