High-stakes punter ‘Vegas Dave’ loses $1million on UFC 200 bet

He's not feeling sorry for himself

Whenever a big UFC event rolls around, you just know ‘Vegas Dave’ will be ready and waiting.

The high-stakes sports bettor has been known to put huge sums on some of the biggest MMA bouts going, and last night’s UFC 200 main event was no exception.

‘Vegas Dave’ – real name Dave Oancea – won $240,00 on Holly Holm beating Ronda Rousey at UFC 193, before adding a further $300,000 when Miesha Tate dethroned Holm earlier this year.

This time he backed Tate once more, telling LV Sports Network that he placed the biggest wager in his life on Tate defending her title, betting $1m on ‘Cupcake’ to defeat Amanda Nunes.

“I think Nunes is a great fighter but she’s not a champion like Miesha,” he said.

“But in fighting anything can happen.

“The last two underdogs won. This time Miesha’s the favourite but I’m sticking to my guns and I believe she’s going to get it done.”

Unfortunately for Dave, Nunes caused a huge shock, claiming the women’s bantamweight belt just three minutes and 16 seconds into the first round with a rear-naked choke.

The high-stakes bettor was humble in defeat, though, admitting he felt far more sorry for Tate than he did for himself.

He seemed genuinely proud to see the American earn her title against Holm, and he knows as well as anyone else how much defeat will have hurt her.
