May day for Gunnar Nelson as UFC pit him against a dangerous rising star

Gunni will need some Dutch courage

The UFC have confirmed this morning that everyone’s favourite Icelandic Irishman will be back in an octagon in May.

Conor McGregor’s team-mate at SBG has been out of action since his loss to Demian Maia in December at UFC 194.

The welterweight was soundly beaten that night, but is now firmly on the comeback trail and his next fight has been confirmed for Rotterdam this May.

The UFC are coming to Holland on May 8th, and Nelson is set to fight 24-year-old Albert Tumenov at UFC Fight Night 84.

The interesting clash of styles was confirmed by the UFC this morning, with Tumenov’s striking strength contrasting sharply to the SBG man’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expertise.

Tumenov is currently on a run of five straight wins, while his last success came at UFC 195, when he beat Lorenz Larkin by split decision.

The fight is likely to be one of the key features of the night’s card, and may be a contender to be a co-main to the key event of the night, Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovski.
