Georges St-Pierre reveals his toughest opponent and, surprisingly, it’s not Johny Hendricks

Offers up two names

Knocked out by Matt Serra, submitted by Matt Hughes and battered (but not beaten) by Johny Hendricks.

Georges St-Pierre’s career has, for the large part, been smooth sailing but it hasn’t been without a few waves along the way.

The former long-time welterweight champion has endured some tribulations in a largely untroubled second championship reign.

But no legend can say that they’ve gone perfectly unscathed in the Octagon and that’s no different for GSP who has been in some battles in his time.

St-Pierre was asked during a recent interview with Bloody Elbow to name the toughest opponent he’s come up against and the 35-year-old, who is rumoured to return to the UFC after entering the USADA testing pool this week, named two candidates.

“Penn and Condit,” St-Pierre revealed. “Condit hurt me the most, and then it was mentally a challenge, and Penn also hurt me.

“People think Hendricks was the toughest, but against Hendricks I was emotionally hurt, that’s what showed on my face. The next day physically I was fine. Against Hendricks I felt I was against the system. I felt the system was corrupted against me, like Dana White was for some reason against me, and I didn’t understand why; I was not trying to put the UFC down, but to bring ‘em up.

“When I spoke before the fight I wanted to help the sport, I wanted to help the UFC, so that’s what showed, what was emotionally, mentally in my head. I felt the system was against me and I didn’t understand why.”
