Frankie Edgar’s suggestion for when he’ll finally fight Conor McGregor has got us very excited

Make it happen, UFC

Frankie Edgar wants to be either fighting for or defending the 145 lb title on November 12.

The former lightweight king is set to take on Jose Aldo for the interim featherweight belt at UFC 200, and he is hopeful that he can get the win and have his next fight at Madison Square Garden.

Edgar told FOXBusiness.com that he doesn’t care if Conor McGregor relinquishes his featherweight belt, he’ll take on any opponent at the promotion’s landmark event in New York.

“I’d love to get a win here in July and then fight McGregor for that real title in the Garden in November. If not McGregor, then I’ll be defending my title in the Garden.”

Aldo Edgar takedown

When asked about the promotion’s decision to make McGregor’s welterweight do-over against Nate Diaz the main event of UFC 200, Edgar admitted it didn’t make a whole lot of sense. However, he is remaining positive.

“It’s kind of silly. It doesn’t really make sense, but I get to fight a five-round fight, I get to fight a legend in Aldo and be on one of the biggest cards in UFC history.”

“There’s a lot of plus sides to it. And also, the interim’s going to guarantee me a shot at the title. If I hold the interim, there’s no ifs, ands or buts about it. I have to be fighting that guy for the title, or my title becomes the title if [McGregor] doesn’t come down.”

We’ll have to wait and see whether Edgar has gained enough ground on the Brazilian since the last time they fought to claim that interim strap on July 9.
