Is Frankie Edgar the Answer to the question, ‘who’s going to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 200?’
Edgar would certainly like to think so. The former lightweight champion has been campaigning for a fight against the Notorious for a while now, but his efforts have really intensified since he knocked out Chad Mendes inside one round the night before McGregor became the 145 lb king.
In the past week, Edgar has spoken about how McGregor fighting him would allow him to silence the doubters after the Dubliner was finished by Nate Diaz at UFC 196, and he called him out in somewhat bizarre fashion on Twitter.
Edgar hasn’t been known as a fighter who calls people out or talks trash, but recently he has changed his stance on how he promotes himself in a bid to get another title shot. It seems that this has worked in his favour as Dana White revealed in an interview with ESPNÂ that Edgar is one of the front runners to fight McGregor next.
“The fight that hasn’t happened that a lot of fans want to see is Conor McGregor vs. Frankie Edgar for the 145 pound title.”
It’s important to note though, that Edgar has been repeatedly snubbed for title shots over the last year or so, even when he was promised them. The New Jersey native revealed to FOX Sports that he was promised “whatever he wanted” after knocking out Mendes, but that didn’t transpire.
“I was told after I fought (Chad) Mendes, ‘Frankie gets whatever he wants’ and I still didn’t get what I wanted. Now it’s my chance again. Are they going to dog me again? Is Dana (White) going to dog me again and not give me this? He can’t. He just can’t.”
