He’s waiting in the wings
UFC featherweight Frankie Edgar believes he is next in line to compete for the title, but is expecting to have to wait until the middle of next year to do it.
Current champion Jose Aldo has been pencilled in to defend the belt in December against long-time foe Conor McGregor, who picked up the interim strap by beating Chad Mendes last month following the Brazilian’s withdrawal with a rib injury.
There are those that doubt Aldo will answer the bell at UFC 194 in Las Vegas, but Edgar believes the eagerly-awaited fight will go ahead at the second time of asking, however, the second-ranked fighter in the division still intends to be ready to answer the call if necessary.
Speaking to the lads at Severe MMA, Edgar said: ‘I’m hoping to fight around that time anyway, so I don’t have to worry about it. I’ll be in camp, so if something comes up… but I really do think they are going to fight this time around, but you never know.
‘I was ready to jump in on 15 days’ notice, so no matter what, I’ll be ready to go again.’
Edgar also chatted about his trip to Bahrain with McGregor coach John Kavanagh and his thoughts on changing divisions…
