Who would have thought that Floyd Mayweather would be defending Ronda Rousey?
The undefeated boxer has had a bit of a history with the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion.
Whether it’s Rousey making fun of Mayweather’s past crimes after beating him to an ESPY, or Mayweather suggesting Rousey’s cover of The Ring magazine made boxing look bad, they both seem to take any opportunity to score digs on each other.
So when Rowdy lost her belt and her invincible status after being outclassed by former boxer Holly Holm, Mayweather should be the first person to kick the lioness while she was down, right?
Wrong.
Speaking to FightHype, Mayweather came out in defence of the former baddest female fighter on the planet, criticising the abuse slung at her by internet trolls, acknowledging that “A true champion can take a loss and bounce back.
“People will love you on Friday and then Sunday morning, it’s nothing but negative comments and people making jokes and people making fun about you, which I don’t think is cool.”
“I’ve never been on the other side, so I don’t know how it feels. I’m pretty sure she’s a very, very strong person, but we still have to take into consideration that she has feelings.”
He also debunked the recent 50 Cent Instagram post which was initially thought to have been posted by his request, saying: “I haven’t really spoke to anyone about the Ronda Rousey situation, just to set the record straight.”
Mayweather also offered to help Rousey out in the striking department.
“If she need help as far as boxing, I’m here to help you. It’s all about timing and inches. I mean ground game is unbelievable.”
