Floyd Mayweather gives defiant yet disappointing response to Conor McGregor deal

Reporter from The Sun tried his luck

“Y’all keep it up, I’m going to slap both y’all p***ies!”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was not in the mood, this afternoon, as he hosted a press conference to promote one of the young fighters in his TMT camp.

Mayweather is currently in England to promoter ‘Team Money’ fighter Gervonta Davis ahead of his bout against Liam Walsh on Saturday night.

The retired boxer wanted to focus on that contest but you can hardly blame the reporter from The Sun that stood up near the end of the briefing and asked about UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

‘The Notorious’ has signed his half of a multi-million dollar contract to switch codes and take on Mayweather in a boxing ring.

The reporter asked ‘Money’ if he had any response to McGregor. Mayweather firmly stated:

“This is all about Gervonta Davis and Liam Walsh and we are here to talk about them. Asking that is a total disrespect to them.

“Both of these fighters deserve your respect.”

And that was that. With a long, meaningful stare, Mayweather shut down the query. Still, there was quite a bit of heckling to deal with during the closing stages of an increasingly fraught press conference.

As for McGregor, he was relaxing at home around about the same time…

The former world champion champion believes Davis is like him in so many ways and has the talent possible to make it far in the fight game.

“We both come from similar backgrounds. Both of our mothers were on drugs,” said Mayweather, who also recalled growing up with six siblings in a one-bedroom house.

“In our neighbourhoods, we start looking up to the pimps and gangsters,” he added.

The 40-year-old says he has been keeping in decent shape by sparring and running with Davis in recent weeks.
