WATCH: Floyd Mayweather really doesn’t like being compared to Conor McGregor

This really, really hit a nerve...

Robert Redmond

“I’m an elephant. An elephant don’t beef with ants.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. claims he didn’t watch Conor McGregor’s victory over Eddie Alvarez last Saturday at UFC 205 in New York.

He claims he didn’t even know the fight at Madison Square Garden was on, and began this impromptu interview with TMZ Sports appearing highly disinterested in speaking about the Irish fighter – until McGregor was dubbed the “Mayweather of MMA.”

That description appeared to hit a nerve with the retired boxer, who has long been linked with a mega money bout against McGregor.

“I didn’t know Conor McGregor was undefeated,” Mayweather said.

“I didn’t know he had a reign in MMA for 20 years and undefeated and was world champion in five different weight classes. That’s something I didn’t know. So, I guess you guys are telling me something new if you say he’s the Floyd Mayweather of the MMA.

“If you say he’s the Floyd Mayweather of the MMA, I’m trying to find out have he ever made $300 million in one night? Have he ever made $100 million in one night? Have he ever made $70 million in one night? So, as far as saying he’s the Floyd Mayweather of MMA, it’s OK to say it but it’s not true.”

Here’s the interview in full, and if you ever run into Floyd and his giant bodyguard, it’d probably be a good idea to avoid comparing him to McGregor.

And definitely don’t call him the “Conor McGregor of boxing,” we can’t imagine that would go down very well either.
