Not to be outdone by Conor McGregor’s massively successful documentary series, Jose Aldo has a feature film coming out about him.
Four years after it was initially discussed, a movie about the life of the UFC featherweight champion is officially in production.
Director Afonso Poyart will oversee the film and the cast has been revealed with soap actor Malvino Salvador playing the 25-1 Brazilian and Cléo Pires playing Aldo’s wife Vivianne.
Paris Filmes will distribute the film and one of its executives, Sandi Adamiu, announced that the UFC have signed on as an investor in the project.
“The film is in pre-production and we begin shooting next month. We estimate the release to happen in January or February of next year. The director is Afonso Poyart, and it’s a film with the UFC as an investor, so we can use the brand to further tell the story of Aldo. It’s the story of an underdog, and a story of love. So we expect a large audience.”
With Aldo’s upcoming title defense against arguably his most dangerous challenger, Conor McGregor, just two months away, we don’t yet know whether the film will feature The Notorious but our fingers are firmly crossed.
