UFC 229 was the quiet, subdued affair we had all expected
That statement is of course, ludicrous. UFC 229 was absolutely wild, particularly the headline fight, which saw Khabib Nurmagomedov claim a fourth round submission against Conor McGregor.
Now while most fights see the action cease at the end, this was not most fights, and instead we saw something of an escalation of violence as soon while McGregor sat dazed on the canvas.
A key part of that escalation was the victor, Dagestani grappler Khabib, vaulted over the Octagon walls to have a go at members of McGregor’s team, most notably teammate Dillon Danis.
What ensued was utter chaos, with McGregor and Khabib out of the Octagon when Bruce Buffer announced the winner, as well as McGregor being sucked punched by a member of Khabib’s team.
It was a certain reaction however which captured the imagination of the internet however, most notably the reaction of Drake.
You may remember that Drake has been supporting McGregor all week, standing alongside him for photographs and generally being a good mate, but when Khabib hopped out of the Octagon to confront the Irishman’s team, the Canadian rapper was the picture of pure fear.
You can’t really blame the fella – it was quite a stir – but the internet, being its merciless self, just had a good laugh. And, we suspect, now has a new meme.
