Need a new opponent for Nate Diaz? Donald Cerrone knows a guy.
McGregor announced his retirement last week, was booted off his UFC 200 headliner against Nate Diaz then took it upon himself to tweet that he would be returning to the card. However, Dana White has confirmed time and time again that the landmark event will not feature the Notorious.
Happy to announce that I am BACK on UFC 200!
Shout out to @danawhite and @lorenzofertitta on getting this one done for the fans. #Respect— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) April 25, 2016
John Kavanagh explained that this was a retaliatory measure taken by McGregor due to being asked to appear at the Las Vegas press conference last Friday, which conflicted with the start of his training camp. However, perpetual championship belt bridesmaid Donald Cerrone believes McGregor’s antics are a bit silly, as he told MMA Junkie.
“For ‘Mr. Press Conference’ not to want to do a press conference is insane. They’re talking upwards of $8 (million), $9 million dollars he’s throwing away. I would literally ride a rocket ship to the moon for six months for $10 million to do a press conference.”
McGregor and his camp have argued that his job is to fight, not to promote. Cerrone disagrees. He feels that the media obligations are an important part of the sport.
“Our job is to entertain. That’s what we do; it’s part of the job. When you sign on the ‘X,’ I have to do all the media obligations for Ottawa (at UFC Fight Night 89). You think I want to? It’s just part of the job. It’s what we have to do.”
Cerrone (29-7 MMA, 16-4 UFC) is scheduled to fight Patrick Cote (23-9 MMA, 10-9 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 89, but if Nate Diaz is looking for a opponent for UFC 200, Cowboy would be more than willing to be his dance partner.
“I’ll fight Diaz at 200, and I don’t need any more money.”
