Did suspended Anderson Silva accidentally let slip the opponent for his comeback fight?

The Spider vs The Count

Anderson Silva vs Michael Bisping in Brazil.

That’s what The Spider seems to think anyway.

At Eurasia Fight Night in Dagestan on Friday, middleweight great Silva was interviewed and he appeared to let slip that the UFC were already working on his comeback fight.

“I think I’m fighting in April next year in Brazil in my city Curitiba on the same card as (Fabricio) Werdum,” Silva said. “The people talk for my next opponent is, I don’t remember the name, but I think it’s Michael Bisping. I think, I don’t know.”

Silva is currently serving a one-year retroactive ban for testing positive for banned substances before and after his unanimous decision victory over Nick Diaz in the main event of January’s UFC 183.

Bisping and Silva are two stalwarts of the UFC’s middleweight division and it’s something of a minor miracle that they’ve never crossed paths before but with Silva’s fall from grace and Bisping’s momentum after a pair of wins over C.B. Dollaway and Thales Leites, there is no better time than now for the match-up.

Bisping didn’t sound aware of the matchmaking, though.

It is rather strange for the UFC to already be considering Bisping for the Anderson fight, given that The Count already has a bout with Robert Whittaker lined up for UFC 193.

If the fight is eventually confirmed, though, it may come as bad news for English fight fans as the UFC have recently confirmed an event in London for the end of February which was reported to be headlined by Bisping but that won’t be happening if Silva is on the table.
