Dana White was withering in his assessment of UFC 208

One event to forget

Sean McMahon

So not the most successful of events then.

If you went through the effort of staying up for the UFC’s latest pay-per-view event, you may have felt a little let down.

There will be disappointment for fans who like to see stoppages, as nine out of the ten fights on the main card went to decision.

There was no shortage of controversy, however, if that sort of thing makes up for a lack of excitement in the octagon.

The fight to determine who would be the UFC’s first women’s featherweight champion ended in dispute.

Germaine de Randamie beat Holly Holm by unanimous decision.

However, many thought that de Randamie should have had points deducted considering there were a number of late blows after the bell had sounded, which occurred at both the end of the second and third rounds.

Anderson Silva also secured his first win in the UFC in over four years when he overcame Derek Brunson in another unanimous decision, with many commentators believing the fight should have been awarded to the American.

Safe to say, the controversial judging decisions didn’t go unnoticed by UFC president, Dana White, who let his feelings known to UFC reporter Megan Olivi.

“I feel that the ref from New York shouldn’t be ref-ing a main event fight. They don’t have enough experience. He should not have been in there. But again, we don’t make those decisions — the commission does.

“That was a bad decision by them. If that guy takes a point for hitting after the bells, it’s a draw”, White said of the controversial decision in the inaugral featherweight title fight.

White, is clearly not a fan of the New York Athletic Commission and when quizzed on what was his highlight of UFC 208, he made his feelings perfectly clear.

“The plane ride home.”

Fair enough then, Dana.
