The topic of the Jon Jones controversy is one of the hottest topics in the UFC at the minute.
So there’s no surprise that the subject came up during a chat with featherweight contender Conor McGregor and the Irish fighter was baffled at how Bones keeps getting into trouble for driving offences.
“I can’t understand it,” he said. “Like, get a driver. Get driven. If I go out now, I’m driven in a limo. You know what I mean? You’ve got money. I don’t know. It’s just a weird situation. But I wish him well. I hope he gets his head together and comes back. He’s a great man, he’s a great champion.”
Jones was stripped of his light heavyweight title after being arrested for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run that saw a pregnant woman break her arm and it is not his first brush with the law, having been arrested for a DUI in 2012.
McGregor has a simple method for avoiding such trouble and he revealed it at an open workout in Las Vegas.
“Keep your team around you,” he said. “I’ve met Jon many times and I love Jon. He’s a great man. He’s a great fighter. But his decisions and his choices, I don’t understand how. You’ve got millions in the bank. How can you be in a little desert town in Albuquerque and be in a little rental Buick?”
Outsiders might get the wrong impression of the brash McGregor and consider him a party guy but The Notorious is not too fond of that lifestyle, although he did enjoy a night on the Vegas strip with his teammates when they arrived in Nevada.
“We had a good night, head home and now it’s done,” he said. “Now that temptation is killed nice and early. If you let it build and build and build, then people start getting agitated and want to go out and do other stuff. And it leads into something bad. We killed it and now we are focusing in.”
