Rapid gains

Still, Floyd Mayweather is the man to beat.

Conor McGregor will tell you that most of his hardest work away from the TV cameras.

He would be right about that but the most we get to see him earning his crust is with a microphone in his hand or trying to KO his opponents.

Expert Market has worked out McGregor’s earnings per second based on money earned from his last two fights. They estimate that the Dubliner took home $13.5m from his 13-second victory over Jose Aldo and his second round loss to Nate Diaz.

Using that as a base calculation, they claim McGregor earned a shade under €32,000 per second of fighting action.

Pretty damned impressive. That is until you compare that to the massive earnings of [now retired] boxer Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.

Based on his last two fights, Mayweather is said to have earned $66,000 for every second he was in the ring.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is on $28,000 per second but that figure would have been much higher before her UFC 193 loss to Holly Holm, which happened in the second round.

Next on the list is Lewis Hamilton [a paltry $358 per second], then Cristiano Ronaldo [$180] and Usain Bolt [$95].
