Conor McGregor said his stomach turned when he read an interview with Jose Aldo’s head coach Andre Pederneiras in which he appeared to glorify athletes on performance enhancing drugs.
Pederneiras said last week: “If the UFC wants the best show and the guy is juiced, you will have the best show of your life. If it is a sport and everyone is clean, maybe people won’t be jumping out of their seats and cheering.”
The Brazilian went on to explain his stance, saying: “I’m not saying it’s right to do it, I’m against it, but everybody knows that if a guy is not under the effect of any substances, he will not perform as well as an athlete who is. It’s a very tricky moment to figure out what path to take.”
But Conor McGregor was still left gobsmacked at the lack of sensitivity used by Pederneiras when discussing the serious issue of PEDs in combat sports.
Speaking to us today, The Notorious said: “I read an interview recently about what his [Aldo’s] coach said and I was actually blown away by it. My stomach turned a little bit to be honest.
“His coach was saying that the UFC need to decide whether it’s spectacle or sport because if they do the enhanced testing then the athletes won’t be as good.
“But if they let them be on performance enhancing drugs then it’ll be the best spectacle they’ve ever seen.
“And I’m reading this thinking ‘what the fuck is this?’
“He can say what he wants but I’m just happy that we will be tested out of competition.”
