“Keep dreaming.”

Conor McGregor was asked by Ariel Helwanion on a special edition of The MMA Hour, to deliver a message to those who doubt he can return to the very top of the sport.

McGregor is set to make his return to the octagon when he faces Michael Chandler, and the Irishman already has his sights set on world title glory.

The Dubliner has claimed that he wants to fight the winner of the Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman 3 fight at UFC 286. “Yeah, I’d like a welterweight title shot,” said McGregor. “So I would like that.”

McGregor has fought at welterweight three times before, winning against Donald Cerrone and splitting a pair of bouts with Nate Diaz.

However, he has lost back to back fights against Dustin Poirier at lightweight and many believe that the controversial fighter is now past his best.

Helwanion asked McGregor to look down the barrel of the camera, and give a message to those who think that he can’t perform a the top level anymore.

“Right over there (points at camera) the people who say that you’re done, the people who say that you’re a shadow of your former self. That you can’t recreate the magic of 2016 – what do you say to those people?”

The former two-weight world champ, was in defiant form and didn’t have to think for too long before giving his response.

“Keep dreaming, because that ain’t the truth. I know that my skill level has gone way up. Even in the last camp, I’m only getting better.

“So I’m excited and confident to not necessarily prove those people wrong, but prove my support correct. That’s always my goal.”
