He’s called himself the pound-for-best for some time now but it’s taken until today for Conor McGregor to be officially recognised in the rankings.
The Notorious claimed the interim featherweight title after defeating Chad Mendes via TKO in the main event of UFC 189 and the performance was enough to rocket the Irishman into the top fifteen.
McGregor takes the place of fellow 145lber Frankie Edgar who drops to fifteenth on the list that is topped by Jose Aldo, the man that McGregor was supposed to fight.
The Dubliner also leapfrogs Edgar in the featherweight rankings as he is now considered the best featherweight on the planet, excluding the undisputed champion.
If McGregor can overcome the test of Aldo in their unification bout which is rumoured to be taking place in January then you’d imagine he’d secure himself a place in the P4P top five where he would find himself among some very talented company in the likes of Ronda Rousey and Chris Weidman.
