SBG make a fool of UFC star who infamously offended everyone in Ireland

Timing is everything

UFC welterweight Colby Covington doesn’t have a fan-friendly style, so he has resorted to talking smack.

Colby Covington isn’t far off a UFC title shot, but his wrestling-heavy style means the majority of casual fans haven’t a clue who he is.

Irish fans may remember him as a villain for his comments about the vastly more popular Cathal Pendred. Although he is retired, ‘The Punisher’ gained a big following when he was active after winning a Cage Warriors belt, being a contestant on the Ultimate Fighter and as one of the first wave of Irish fighters in the UFC. So Covington decided to send a tweet vowing to bury Pendred ‘like the British buried the Irish’ to garner some buzz.

When he saw Artem Lobov fall short against Andre Fili in Gdansk, Covington couldn’t help himself. He felt compelled to seize the opportunity to score a dig against his gym, SBG.

Covington shot his wad a bit early though, as the UFC wasn’t the only major promotion featuring an SBG fighter at the weekend. 24 hours later, Poland’s powerhouse promotion KSW made their Irish debut in the 3Arena.

Although the event will be best remembered for the controversial end to the grudge match between Norman Parke and Mateusz Gamrot, SBG’s Chris Fields kicked off the main card with a comprehensive decision win over Poland’s Michal Fijalka.

SBG were quick to tell Covington exactly how long it had been since one of their fighters were victorious after the fight.
