There must be something about The Ultimate Fighter gym as it sets Cody Garbrandt off something fierce.
The UFC bantamweight champion made an early name for himself, in 2015, by charging Conor McGregor during the Dubliner’s coaching stint for TUF 22. Garbrandt did not approve of McGregor calling his Team Alpha Male buddy a ‘snake in the grass’.
18 months on and Dillashaw backed up McGregor’s comments by jumping ship and running his mouth about his former stablemates.
Wisely, the UFC decided to pair 135lb champion Garbrandt off against former champion Dillashaw to add some spice to their title fight later this year.
The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption features 12 MMA fighters that have previously featured in the promotion and who have been given a chance to get back.
While that concept is interesting enough, many will be tuning in to see the fireworks and trash-talking between Garbrandt and Dillashaw. Judging by the FOX promo, which features Garbrandt launching himself at Dillashaw and grabbing him by the throat, it will be compelling viewing.
