Chad Mendes tries to get under Conor McGregor’s skin by cosying up to Jose Aldo

Some neck.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Chad Mendes has attempted to get a rise out of Conor McGregor before their fight for the UFC interim featherweight belt in Las Vegas, this weekend.

The Californian is trying his damnedest to spark some sort of feud with the Irishman and make up for lost time. For the past seven months, he has been forced to watch as McGregor went toe to toe on a worldwide promotional tour with Jose Aldo.

Aldo, the reigning champion, pulled out of the fight last Tuesday, citing a fractured rib. Whomever emerges victorious in Vegas will eventually have to take on the Brazilian in a unification bout.

While McGregor has been generally dismissive of Mendes – describing him as a little twerp he is going to bully, beat and K.O – the 30-year-old is fighting back. He has declared that he wants to punch a hole in McGregor’s face and was in spiky form in the latest Embedded episode.

This morning [or late last night on America’s west coast], Mendes managed to poke McGregor and praise Aldo – the only man who has beaten him in the UFC – in the same tweet.

Translated, it reads, ‘Jose Aldo, when we compete, we compete. But you always have my respect. Conor McGregor does not. Will I have the support of the fans at UFC 189?

There has been no response, yet, from Aldo or McGregor.

All three will be at the MGM Grand this weekend when gold will be strapped around either Mendes or McGregor’s waist.
