The Irishman wants a fairer deal this weekend
Cathal Pendred is just days away from yet another trial inside the octagon, as he gets ready to face Augusto Montano at UFC 188 this Saturday night in Mexico.
But the Irishman is still unhappy with how his previous win over Sean Spencer as part of UFC Fight Night 59 in January was reported, especially on TV.
Pendred won the fight on a unanimous decision but afterwards received serious abuse on social media after many felt that his opponent should have got the decision.
Speaking to MMA Junkie the welterweight feels that Joe Rogan was a major factor in the abuse he received for his comments on the fight.
The Boston native watched the fight back a few days later and was stunned at how the TV commentators were talking about his technique and the events inside the octagon.
“I felt hard done by because for the 15 minutes of the fight, my technique and style was critiqued while my opponent was spoken highly of.”
“The thing that was most insulting was by the last minute of the last round, Joe Rogan was talking about how bad my cardio was and how exhausted I was, as I was taking down my opponent. I was taking down my opponent who was doing nothing, and (Rogan) was talking about how tired I was.”
“That annoyed me a little bit, and I definitely think it had a subconscious effect on people that were watching.
“Particularly when there’s someone talking about every bad thing I do and every good thing my opponent does, it’s going change people’s perception.
“To make it even worse, Rogan came on and said (the decision) was a complete robbery.”
Pendred is hoping for a fairer time this weekend as he takes on Montano looking to extend his winning streak in the UFC to four.
