Bookies struggle to split Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo as betting market hots up

Too close to call

SportsJOE

Phew!

In case you spent the past 36 hours under a very large rock, there was a brief period there when it looked like Conor McGregor’s title fight with Jose Aldo could be off.

Thankfully a UFC statement in the wee hours of Thursday morning allayed fears (sort 0f) and confirmed that McGregor v Aldo will go ahead as planned on July 11. But there’s a contingency plan in the form of Chad Mendes just in case. You can’t be too careful with these things.

Now that the fight is going ahead, focus has turned to who might actually come out on top.

Interestingly the bookies can’s split McGregor and the reigning champion Aldo.

Ladbrokes are quoting the top price in the market on the Irish featherweight, who’s level with his Brazilian opponent at 10/11 for his title shot.

Hayley O’Connor of Ladbrokes said: “In a grudge match between two unbeaten UFC fighters, we’ll let the punters dictate the favourite. McGregor has a massive following and talks a good game, but Aldo will be his toughest opponent yet, so we’re taking him on.”

One other market that may be of interest is odds of 4/7 that the fight will not go to decision.

It;’s 20/23 that it will finish by knock-out, technical knock-out or disqualification.

Here’s some of the key bets available on McGregor v Aldo…
