Rafael dos Anjos will get the chance to become the first Brazilian lightweight champion in UFC history when he takes on Anthony Pettis at UFC 185.
The UFC made the announcement at tonight’s UFC 182 that dos Anjos (23-7) will be the next man to get a crack at the current 155lb kingpin Pettis (18-2) in March.
Dos Anjos is coming off three consecutive wins, over Jason High, Benson Henderson and Nate Diaz so will be confident when he takes on the dominant world champion who hasn’t lost since 2011.
Pettis earned the lightweight strap in August 2013 with an armbar submission victory over Henderson and recently defended the title for the first time after tapping Gilbert Melendez with a guillotine choke.
UFC 185 takes place on 14 March at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
