News of an Anderson Silva drugs test showing up with traces of two performance enhancing drugs broke the hearts of MMA fans worldwide, but there’s one man who has backed the “The Spider” to prove his innocence.
Silva’s doctor, and director of the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission, Dr. Marcio Tannure has claimed to have spoken with the former UFC middleweight champion and that Silva has denied any wrongdoing.
Speaking to Band News radio, Dr. Tannure said: “Anderson told me he’s disappointed, upset because he didn’t use steroids.
“He will ask for the confirmation test because he believes the only explanation is a contamination or a mistake from the lab. He told me: ‘I have an impeccable career history and I wouldn’t want to tarnish my image.’”
The interview, as transcribed by MMAFighting, includes Dr. Tannure’s insistence that the MMA community are jumping the gun with yesterday’s revelation and that we must wait for Anderson’s subsequent test results to come through before condemning the Brazilian middleweight.
“It’s too soon to judge,” he said. “He has the right to a confirmation test and two other results.
“The Nevada Athletic Commission hasn’t talked yet, and the press is already judging him. The process isn’t over yet. If the whole process was already over, he would have already been suspended.”
