The victory marked Overeem’s second consecutive win since his TKO loss to new teammate Curtis Blaydes last summer and the 38-year-old said before the win over Oleinik that he plans to put three wins together before trying to put himself in the frame for a title shot.
“I promised to get three wins and then talk about the title,” Overeem said.
“We’re not there yet but hopefully win this one, fight again in the summer and then in December and we’ll start talking about the title.”
Overeem last for the title at UFC 203 in 2016 where he was knocked out in the first round by former champion Stipe Miocic.
