It looked like a tough weight cut for Ireland’s own Aisling Daly.
The 26-year-old strawweight weighed in at 118lb last night ahead of tonight’s bout against Alex Chambers on the undercard of The Ultimate Fighter 20 finale.
The strawweight limit is 115lbs but the commission will allow 1lb of leeway for fighters in non-title fights.
That left SBG’s Daly with 2lbs to cut in an hour but the 14-5 fighter made the decision not to take the health risk of cutting any further weight.
Traditionally, fighters who travel longer distances for fights, i.e. Dublin to Vegas, have a tougher time making weight due to the energy-zapping nature of jet lag and the length of time it takes a body to get accustomed to new surroundings.
UFC regulations state that fighters who miss weight will be deducted 20% of their fight purse but the financial risks were, thankfully, less important for Daly than the health gamble.
Ais “The Bash” looked worryingly drawn out during the first weigh-in but will hopefully rehydtrate fully and be back to her best for tonight’s make-or-break fight.
